Nuragic village of Serra Orrios

The ancient megalithic city, with chamber tombs and underground corridors.

The most incredible view of the city in bird’s-eye view, it is possible for a long time to guess the different characters in the city’s architecture.

Location Sardinia, Italy 40°20′02.35″N 9°32′16.8″E 

The nuragic village of Serra Orrios is located in the territory of Dorgali, in the province of Nuoro. To reach it you must get to the city of Nuoro and from there out on the SS129 towards Dorgali-Orosei. After about 16 km you will find the right turning to Dorgali on the SP38, go still about 3 km until you reach the entrance area to the site located on the left. Here you are located with ample parking and ticket parking area that enter into a long driveway approximately 500 m leading to the archaeological site.

It is an extensive village of about 100 huts as well as two small temples. The site is well worth a visit and takes at least an hour to walk through to see all the different areas.

It was excavated between 1936 and 1938 by Doro Levi. Later in 1961 the site was restored under the direction of William Maetzke

The tombs are located away from the city to the north east and most of the tourists do not know about them.

On the surface, it is similar to the construction of dolmens, they are all destroyed. Unlike most of the dolmens, a collection of tightly stacked masonry blocks with perfectly symmetrically forms.

Initially, the inner chamber within such structures had about 5 meters long and a meter wide, from the local people called the construction of the tombs of the giants. Just due to the fact that many are gathered from very massive and complex stone blocks, but even for the people rising to 5 meters, such stones would be too heavy.

 

In some of these cameras were an inlet from the outside. Purpose of such cameras had tech energy direction.

For the burial of people, such megaliths in the Euro-Asia are not erected.
