In RKK “Energy” has started a large-scale project to accelerate the implementation of the Russian space experiment “Magnetic 3D bio-printer”.
In the framework of the mentioned program is planned to create a unique bio-printer magnetic biofabrication tissue and organ constructs in microgravity aboard the ISS. Such samples can be used for biomonitoring of adverse effects of cosmic radiation in long-term stay in space and the development of preventive countermeasures.

All existing to date bio-printers work on the principle of additive, i.e. layer-by-layer structure formation. In space in microgravity is possible to use a fundamentally new approach — a “formative” production of tissue constructs and organelles. And this opens up completely new perspectives.
Developed the laboratory of biotechnological research “3D Bioprinting solutions” magnetic bio-printer will allow you to create the organelles in microgravity, including sensitive to radiation. The results of the planned experiment will be used to further explore the possibilities of creating more complex anatomical structures.

RSC Energia
It is noted that in current conditions the experiment requires at least four years. But to maintain leadership in this area, time must be substantially reduced. With this purpose developed a special action plan, in which will participate the specialists of the state Corporation Roscosmos, RSC Energia, TsNIIMash, as well as the customer experiment — laboratory “3D Bioprinting solutions”.
The project participants have formulated and studied several proposals to reduce the implementation period of the experiment: the training of the crew on a specially designed fitness the layout of the bio-printer, and not on a real sample; superalliance processes of approval of technical specification for scientific equipment with the examination procedure, etc. Therefore, the experiment needs to be completed before the end of the decade.
