North of France hit by storm and snowfall

This weekend most of France remains under the influence of an unstable cold air mass of polar origin. This situation causes several episodes of snow and ice to the plain.

The violent gusts of the Egon storm made a victim in the Alpes-Maritimes. A 43-year-old mother was killed, Friday morning, by the fall of a tree uprooted by the wind in her garden in Saint-Jeannet, between Nice and Vence. “The cypress fell on her as she was preparing to take her children to school. She died on the spot, “explained the gendarmerie. “She died before the eyes of her children. The husband tried to intervene immediately by cutting the tree but it was too late, “said the gendarmes who did not deplore other accidents in the department as a result of this windy episode,” violent but enough short”.

The storm caused a lot of material damage in the north, east and center of France. About fifty people were injured slightly, said Friday morning Minister of the Interior Bruno Le Roux. It also involved more than 4452 interventions and required the evacuation of more than a thousand people.

An impressive rex blocking pattern is set to develop over Europe next week

An impressive rex blocking pattern is set to develop over Europe next week: the current cold blast forms a cutoff upper low, persisting over W-CNTRL Mediterranean, bringing rain and snow showers, with a high pressire area and stable weather exending over the British Isles, Ireland and Scandinavia. A textbook rex block. A surface low will likely be positioned over the Tyyrhenian sea, causing strong Bura/Bora winds across the Adriatic sea and likely another round of sea-effect snow over CNTRL Italy. Fresh snowfall likely over parts of the Balkans, strong snowfall over parts of N Greece and central part of N Algeria. We will be monitoring the pattern.
