Torhouse Stone Circle, nr Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland 2.1.18.

This is the second time I’ve paid a visit to this site. The first time, it was immersed in a heavy fog and I produced some atmospheric black and white images. Today couldn’t be more different and I was able to fully appreciate what a prominent location the stones occupy upon a series of gently rolling hills.

The stone circle is one of the best preserved in Scotland with all nineteen stones graded in height and central stone row of three stones. It was recorded in 1684 as ‘King Glaudus’s Tomb’; it was likely constructed around 4000 years ago.

There are other prehistoric monuments in the valley; this was likely a location of some importance in the ancient past.
