Sweden, a settlement from the Mesolithic to the bottom of the Baltic Sea



There is a Mesolithic settlement of fishermen, on the Baltic Sea bottom: this is the discovery of a group of researchers at the University of Lund, who spotted the site during an instrumental reconnaissance in areas south east of the southeastern coast of Sweden, and that they then continued the research in diving, finding large quantities of materials.





The site is organized around an ancient coastal lagoon, was attended by human communities are able to fish using any tools, in a period when the Baltic Sea level was lower than twelve meters compared to the current one. Among the most interesting discoveries, an ax fabricated a working elk stage and marked by a few notches, currently under study.

The first research results have been published in Quaternary International, and enrich our data on changes in the marine environment of the Baltic level over the millennia.
