The Severan Fort, Vindolanda Roman Fort, Northumberland, 29.4.18.
These buildings belong to an earlier Roman fort than the larger Vindolanda Roman Fort, likely built between 208 and 211CE, during the reign of the African emperor, Septimius Severus. The series of long rectangular buildings were barrack blocks and the space included living rooms, bedrooms, kitchen and toilet. The large courtyarded building was likely the senior officer’s residence. The fort also included a private heated bath suite laid out in its central courtyard.
