Wooden Toy Swords for children, Vindolanda Roman Fort, Northumberland, 29.4.18.

There is something inherently symbolic about children running around Vindolanda Roman Fort with toy swords whilst Roman soldiers guard the frontier of the Empire. These two wooden swords were found at Vindolanda thanks to the unusual conditions of the soil which allow for the preservation of more delicate materials.
