More than 100 Cyprus Bronze Age antiquities are on their way back to the island after they were donated to the Walk of Truth foundation by an English collector.

The antiquities, which make up a unique collection with some very rare pieces, are currently owned by David Johnson.
The collection of the 70-year-old architect includes some unique pieces ranging from the Bronze Age, the beginning of the Iron Age and the Archaic period (until 480BC). The pieces include figurines, vases, amphoras, flasks.
Johnson’s original idea was to donate the entire collection to the Archaeological Museum in Cyprus and he even visited the island for that purpose in 2016. However, discussions did not go well and he changed his mind. His offer to reveal information about Cyprus pieces on the international art market were also rebuffed.
The collector then started negotiations to give the collection to foreign foundations, including a museum in Switzerland, which is how Walk of Truth’s Tasoula Hadjitofi heard about them. Further negotiations between her and the family led to Johnson again offering his collection to Cyprus.
He has now donated the collection to the Walk of Truth, ensuring that Hadjitofi will donate the items to a public institution in Cyprus.
The ministries of Communications and Foreign Affairs are set to assess the exact value of the collection.
Johnson is currently in the process of completing an academic paper on Cypriot Figurines of the Early to Middle Bronze Age.
