Celtic Gods Stonework and Pottery Photo Set 2, Tullie House…

Celtic Gods Stonework and Pottery Photo Set 2, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle, 18.3.18

The first image of Celtic deities may well represent the three hooded dwarves of mythology associated with healing, prosperity and fertility, known as ‘Genii Cucullati’. They are sometimes found alone but native Britons often used triplication to avert evil influence or bad luck. The second image is of a Celtic wheel god whilst the fifth is an unfinished stone piece (not a head with a beard). The sixth image is of a Celtic face on a worked stud whilst the final two images are of an unknown Celtic mystical beast; a ram horned snake. Apparently, rams horns were seen as a symbol of divine power among ancient people.
