Roman Wooden Artefacts from Vindolanda Roman Fort, Northumberland, 29.4.18.
Took a visit to Vindolanda Roman Fort again yesterday to look at their brand new multi-million pound exhibition of wooden artefacts taken from the site. The specific nature of soil conditions and the undisturbed nature of the site have meant that artefacts that often decay have been preserved. Pictured here are:
: Branded barrel staves with graffiti (Image 1 compilation)
: Roman tent pegs (Image 2)
:Wooden panel with pin (Image 3)
:Workbench top with named graffiti of ‘Atto’ (Images 4 and 5)
: Wooden barrel lid with graffiti (Image 6)
: Wooden disc (Image 7)
:Wooden scrapers (Images 8, 9 and 10)
