Roman Baths at Lancaster, Lancashire, 27.7.18.

This year I’ve tried to post a greater number of lesser known or overlooked ancient sites. This is the first time I’ve photographed this site although I’ve been a few times before.

Lancaster Roman Bath House is situated close to the River Lune and on the periphery of the site of an original timber Roman fort that existed roughly where Lancaster Castle exists today. Part of the site is obscured by modern buildings and excavations in the cellars of several houses and buildings in the city centre have revealed a thriving Roman community.

The bath house clearly had a raised floor and holocaust from the longer stones placed upright.
